Jamaica lies in the Caribbean Sea. Mountains rise up to higher than 2,300 metres in the middle of the island, sheltering the south coast of the island from most of the rainfall. Kingston has rainfall peaks in May and October, with a risk of hurricanes from June to November. Highs are around 30-32C (86-90F) all year, with lows not falling much below 20C (68F) and seven to nine hours of sunshine on average. December to April is the dry season.
