Climate Summary for Turkey

Turkey is a large country with a wide variety of climates. Most of the popular tourist destinations are on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts. Here the summers are dry and hot with typical highs of 28-31C (82-88F) and 12 to 13 hours of sunshine a day. Even in September and early October highs are 26-29C (79-84F) and night-time temperatures do not fall below 13C (55F). Winters are wetter but still mild and there is a reasonable amount of fine weather as the rain tends to fall quickly in short periods. Away from these areas, Istanbul has colder winters but is still very warm and mostly fine in summer. The capital city of Ankara, in the inland plateau region, has cold but dry winters with snow and very warm summers.
