Climate Summary for Spain

The eastern and southern coastal resorts have warm, dry summers with highs around 29°C (84°F), lows of 18-21°C (64-70°F) and around 10 to 11 hours of sun a day. Winters are mild and still fairly sunny with only occasional rain, most of which occurs between October and March. However, occasional heavy rainstorms are possible near the coast although Almeria misses most of the rain. Inland Spain and especially Madrid can get very hot in summer but is cooler in the winter. However, the winters are drier than other parts of Spain with a good deal of crisp, sunny weather. Northern Spain is the coolest and wettest region of the country but even here there are usually seven or eight hours of sunshine a day in summer. It can be hot on the north coast at places such as San Sebastian when a southerly wind blows although in general summers here are warm rather than hot.
