Climate Summary for Greece
Southern Greece has plenty of sunshine year-round with four to five hours in winter and 12 to 14 hours in summer. Summers are hot with temperatures of 30-33°C (86-91°F) in Athens and can sometimes be oppressive with temperatures reaching 40°C (104°F). Eastern Greece is very dry in summer, typical of Mediterranean regions. Winters are mild with highs of 13-15°C (55-59°F) and lows of 6-8°C (43-46°F) in Athens and rainfall peaks in the winter months. However, northern Greece is colder in winter with lows of 2-5°C (36-41°F) and heavy snow is frequent in the mountains.
