Both altitude and the large continental land mass to the north affect the climate here. The rainy season is May to October but rain can fall in all months. Snow can occur anywhere but only lies above 3000m. At lower levels (below 1800m) summers can be hot but cold waves can sweep down as far as the tropics in winter bringing sub-zero temperatures. Higher areas, including Mexico City at 2300m, are cooler in both summer and winter but cold waves rarely get this far south.
